How to make a ps2 memory card save ps1 games

Stupid, isn't it? It's almost as stupid as the power button design. I have a PS2, so I'm not being a fanboi for another system You'd think that they would have figured out how to shunt the file onto a PS2 card. Arguments that they can't do this because they have some smart card technology in the PS2 card are unacceptable as reasons why they couldn't.

In the stupid situation that they couldn't, you would think that you could "save" to a virtual card in memory see also Final Fantasy Chronicles. Unfortunately, neither is the case. I have heard that you can archive PS1 files onto a PS2 card, but you can't play them from there.

I've never tried this. When you consider an entire PSX memory card is k and PS2 card is 8MB - why couldn't they have created a virtual file on there thats k in size and have some kind of interface which can access that "card" block? Sing with me: Show me the money, show me the money. Oh my god, who can afford the amazing high retail price of 9 dollars for a memory card?

On a side note, the power button on the PS2 isn't stupid at all , it's exactly the same as all the other parts of my home theater system and computer It would've taken them more than a few minutes to be able to code the machine to handle ps1 saves on the PS2 card, but they couldn't be bothered by it. Remember, we're dealing with the same people who couldn't figure out how to get 4 ports on their machine. Actually the effort to do so really isn't worth it when you consider the low costs of the PS1 cards.

Also how is a PS1 game going to know how and where the save slots on a PS2 card are? I think the overall hassle wasn't worth the effort. One thing you can do though, is back up PS1 saves on your PS2 card. Just go into the memory manager and copy them. Shouldn't matter. I've a ton of NES games that have no problem saving onto my DC's memory card, same with the bleemcast games. I don't have a ps2, but I'm usually a pretty thrifty person says the man with an interest in Hi-Fi audio. Clearly, some people don't think it's stupid, but I do, and that's how opinions work.

Second I don't like to pay for something that isn't necessary. If Sony could implement PS1 games compatibility for the PS2 they also could have done this for the memory cards. I work hard for my money so should Sony. And I don't really believe it's bad planning, by forcing consumers to use the old memory cards they can squeeze a little bit more profit out of the factories pumping out the obsolete memory cards.

Speaking of squeezing money out of consumers. I'll bring up again the example of Smackdown 3. How is essentially the same game with barely anything added to it taking up 4 MEGAbytes? EA sports is the same way.. If they programmed the same way they did for the ps1, you could probably fit about games on an 8MB card, but I don't think sony would be happy about that. Well, I hate to dig up old debates, but I never got in on this one.

I just got my PS2 last week though, so you'll have to forgive me. I like the power button just fine. Well, supposedly it has something to do with the older games not being able to correctly address the new cards. The power button, while different for a console, isn't anything new. It's fairly common, and not any different than the ones you find on computers since the advent of the ATX spec. As for this, quote: Remember, we're dealing with the same people who couldn't figure out how to get 4 ports on their machine.

Just because they didn't physically install 4 ports in the box doesn't mean it can't handle it. And once again, the vast majority of games are 1 to 2 players max. It actually makes some amount of sense to keep costs down by omitting hardware on the base unit that a relatively small number of people are going to need.

It's not like multitaps are all that expensive. Uh, well they could just have not made the memcards hold more, if the save files are really that much artificially inflated. IMO, it's probably something more about how little the original memcards could store and thus forced the developers to make the save files take up as little space as possible , while PS2 memcards allow devs to be less efficient. For some odd reason people are looking for a ghetto mechanical switch.

And we've gotten into this argument before.. You shouldn't have to restart the game every time you play. It's not fair. Unless you want to leave the playstation 2 on at all times and play more of electricity bills, I suggest you get a Playstation 1 memory card.

My cousin tried using her PS2 memory card, and it didn't work either. So I think it only works on the Playstation memory card. I hope this helps! Update: I recently read somewhere that it is possible to store data on the PS2 card, but you need to transfer it to a PS1 card to actually load it, or something like that. So you will need to PS1 card anyway. You can't. But you can't load it while it's on PS2 MC.

I suggest you get a PSX memory card. They're pretty cheap. JadeTorchwood - 11 years ago 0 0. I don't think you can; you need a ps1 memory card. I have heard this is just a rumor but by copying data from one memory card to the other ps1 and 2 data is interchangeable allowing you to save say god of war 2 on a ps1 memory card and ff8 on a ps2 memory card.
